Usually people are looking for an option to check the website / webapplication performance in a new server before changing the DNS server.
From the designer view of thinking, we can implement it.
Fist host your website and data base (if it is there) to your new hosting server. After that you can point your domain to the new server using your local dns of the system.
That means it will be affected to your system only. All other people can view your website from the old server only. Please go through the following steps. It is working perfectly in windows xp. I think other windows version also will support same.
1).Open the following file in your notepad.
2). Now you can add the following entries in hosts file to point your domain to new server (It will affect only in your machine)
3). Please replace neserverip with your new website ip (All website will be having one ip. Dedicated or shared ). eg : 126.96.36.199
4).Please replace yourdomain with your domain name eg : asklijo.com
5). Save the hosts file after making the above changes.
6).Now you will be able to open your website from the new server.
Using this way any one can make sure website will run properly in the new server.
